About the event
Gustavo and Santiago played together in Buenos Aires, Argentina many years ago. Through the years, their own journeys took them not only to all corners of tango, but also folklore and jazz. Since they are both multi-instrumentalists, they have a broad musical understanding regardless of the instrument and bring a different unique sound.
Gustavo has recorded with Martin Sued & Yamandu Costa newly released album “Saga” (2025) , Aaron Parks, and performed with Leopoldo Federico, Amelita Baltar, Omar Mollo and has been on tour with the Metropole Orkest on a number of occasions. He has been on stages from the prestigious Teatro Colon of Argentina, to the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam and North Sea Jazz Festival and various venues throughout Europe and abroad.
Santiago has recorded various exciting albums such as "Fuellisto" (2014), with ECM record label "Absinthe" (2019) which has taken him to many stages through Asia and Europe "Evocación de Carnaval" (2021), playing bandoneon solo in both of them.. He released 2 of his own albums:
His latest record "Evocación de Carnaval" was created and recorded in the COVID 19’s quarantine and shows a Santiago Arias only with the bandoneon, and in some cases the voice, intimate and with room for free improvisation on anonymous folkloric melodies, with the noticeable influence of his trajectory through various musical genres. Both have experimented with electronics and pedals but have also grasped firmly their traditions in tango, folklore and jazz which opens a unique dialogue of improvisation.
Salon de IJzerstaven is an intimate theater located on Bickerseiland in Amsterdam. It is housed in the building DE IJZERSTAVEN, a municipal industrial monument dating back to 1904, which once served as the premises of a steel profile trading company.
For the past 40 years, this building has been home to the studio of visual artist Egon Schrama. Today, the space is primarily used for cultural performances.
