The Drilschuur in Schiedam originally served as a drill hall for the Schutterij, a militia that was part of the armed forces until its dissolution in 1906. Afterward, the militia's fanfare was preserved as a municipal music corps, ensuring the continuation of traditional Sunday concerts in the Plantage. During the occupation, the building was sold and repurposed for industrial use, serving companies like Bols, de Koning, and later Dirkzwager. The spacious hall, with its large sliding door, natural light, mezzanine, and remaining basins, was used for the large-scale production of spirits, including gin and vodka, as well as for storing grain and molasses alcohol in a bunker-like building at the rear.
In later years, the Drilschuur became a rehearsal space for the fanfare and has since evolved into a versatile venue. Currently, it houses food truck builders and serves as a space for concerts and other occasional cultural activities, blending its industrial past with creative and community uses.
